π We just launched today. You're one of the first people to try out Faces.
Excited to launch Faces today. More than 4 years in the making. Kind of.
All the way back in 2013 I created a site to showcase creatives and makers from my local community in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Ever since people asked me to create a similar site for their community. I was working on a lot of different products already and figured some other company would step in and create a service for this kind of stuff.
Few years later, late 2016, there still wasn't a simple service to create a visual overview of the people in a community. I did some quick Twitter research and it turned out more people were interested in such a page and even willing to pay.
So I created a few pages at $200 a pop (for the first year) for a handful of customers. Initially I literally just copied the codebase and did a find & replace for their community name, logo, etc. Later I replaced those with 'environment variables' so the codebase could be the same for each community, although there was still no way for customers to update those variables themselves and setting up a new page required me to spin up a new Heroku instance.
About 2-3 weeks ago I finally started working on a true multi-tenancy version of Faces. That means every community page is hosted on the same server using the same codebase. Basically it means that people can now create and manage their own page, without requiring my involvement. A true SaaS.
Anyway. That's where we are today. I'm excited to see what you'll do with it and let me know if you have any questions or feedback. π
PROS :-
Very quick and easy to set up
Tag based approach straightforward and good for SEO
Error free so far
7 day free trial is fair and a great idea
CONS :-
If you use more than a handful of tags on a desktop the branding overlays over the tags
Redirecting to the site fails so your subdomain works great but then what about the main domain
Impossible to signup on a mobile
Obtrusive branding on mobile devices
Support non good to date after following advice to DM developer got no reply for 24 hours
Not sure that $29 is cost effective for a community of 100 which should fill up very quickly on the basis this application will not make any money
Requests
Would be good to be able to add some custom HTML or integrations like click.im or callpage.io or booklikeaboss or crankwheel
Hoping the CONS (and some requests) can be fixed as it is a nice looking application
> If you use more than a handful of tags on a desktop the branding overlays over the tags
Great point. If you have a lot of tags this becomes a problem. This is relatively easy to fix though, so I'll get that sorted soon.
> Redirecting to the site fails so your subdomain works great but then what about the main domain
I'm not sure what you mean with this. I'll follow up via Twitter DM to clarify.
> Impossible to signup on a mobile
While you can sign up to create the community page on mobile, it's indeed not yet possible for people to sign up to your community page from mobile. This is something we're working on.
> Obtrusive branding on mobile devices
Good point. On mobile it's quite obtrusive. I'll see if I can make it less obtrusive or simply hide it altogether on mobile. The goal of Faces is for it to be a white-label solution which is hosted on your own domain, etc.
> Support non good to date after following advice to DM developer got no reply for 24 hours
I'm sorry to hear this. I do my best responding promptly, but since it's a weekend I'm a little slower than usual.
> Not sure that $29 is cost effective for a community of 100 which should fill up very quickly on the basis this application will not make any money
For some people the price point is too high, for others it's more than fair. It really seems to depend on your use case. Right now we're focused on use cases where $29/mo is acceptable as supporting a lower price point isn't feasible at this point. (e.g. more support/sales inquiries than we could comfortable handle.)
> Would be good to be able to add some custom HTML or integrations like click.im or callpage.io or booklikeaboss or crankwheel
That's a really cool idea! Right now we have a handful of predetermined social media links people can add to their profile, but none of those yet. Down the road we'll make this more flexible so you as the community manager can add any profiel field you'd like so you could include those you mentioned as well.
Thanks for your feedback. As you know we're still in the early stages of the product, so this type of feedback is super useful. π
Also i want to be able to remove the "powered by faces"
At the moment it's not possible to change the language of the interace. You can however still write your own texts for the tags, welcome message, etc. That's the bulk of the text.
As for removing "Powered by Faces", this is not possible at the $29/mo plan. I've tried to make it as subtle as possible. I'm also considering adding a referral program where you'd get credit anytime signs up via this link so you could potentially use the service for free. I'm curious to hear if that would change your mind about it?
Just a few feature requests:
FB OG tags for a featured image and description would be π€π½.
Option to change url of thank you page (page after profile submitted).
Also, option to redirect βAdd Your Profileβ to a custom URL. Then, we could send users to a 3rd party checkout page (if charging) and then redirect back to add profile url.
FYI I would pay extra to hide the branding π...
Option to hide subscribe pop up on page load would be nice, if Iβm being picky.
Otherwise, great job!
Redirecting "Add Your Profile" to a custom URL is possible, but not publicly available yet. If you'd like to change this for your page please let me know. ( [email protected] )
The other points are things we'll definitely consider as well. Thanks again!
